Wireless Beacons
Recently I traded my old clunky ipod for the new ipod shuffle. Whats unique about this device is its built in wireless features (since I am not in the AT&T network, I could not utilize an iphone, my first choice). I now tend to walk around looking for hot spots. Most are locked down, but occasionally I come across an innovative business which allows me to hop on board.
Also recently I visited Barcelona and did some tourist things. I noticed some people walking about with those old fashioned tour books. I on the other hand had my nifty ipod in hand (not yet available in Europe, or not widely seen). However, open hot sports where hard to find. How ideal if I could walk through a tourist zone, join a hot spot, find out about the area, and at the same time receive some marketing direction. Most wireless devices are fairly accurate in position location - so my device could tell where I am and what is around the corner that I never would have know. Is this a future trend? I hope so, I don’t like walking with tour book - it makes me feel, well very touristy - even a target for unscrupulous marketers.
