Content Management, Content Distribution
Content management systems became all the rage almost 10 years back. The focus of these systems was how to deliver very deep sites, giving organizations that ability to decentralize content generation yet still maintain a semblance of control.
Some excellent products have evolved over this period. Some focus on specific industries others provide integration mechanisms. The open source world has also produced quite a number, including the award winning Joomla, which the author is very familiar with. However I often wonder if we are past content management, and into content delivery.
Content management has tended to force the focus on building web sites and the single delivery mechanism, albeit with RSS feeds and like. However, I cannot escape thinking that other means of delivery are becoming vogue, including the old faithful email. Besides the overriding objective is to deliver to the vistor the information and content the visitor needs or perhaps hasn’t even considered, but which will prove valuable. Again the principal is to understand where the visitor is in his or her lifecycle towards your organization, and delivery exactly what is needed next.
Do you know any content management systems which do this?
